Her life began in China, where she was called Song Yang and enjoyed picking ginseng and collecting butterflies. It ended in Queens, N.Y., where she called herself SiSi while toiling in the netherworld of illicit massage parlors.https://nyti.ms/2yFRrSe

For years now, the Flushing section of Queens has been an ever-replenishing repository of immigrants entangled in the underground sex economy https://nyti.ms/2Cbi98I pic.twitter.com/xMGyz3CygI

The police make sporadic sweeps, and immigrant women are arrested again and again, but few in the city take notice https://nyti.ms/2Cbi98I pic.twitter.com/qOty9U17j1

Song Yang was one of these women. On a neon-charged November night, she plummeted 4 stories to the pavement she had so often worked. https://nyti.ms/2Cbi98I pic.twitter.com/QUEyVyVxB7

Her death shattered a tight-knit family that would never accept the police version of events. It also reflected the seemingly intractable nature of policing the commercial sex trade.https://nyti.ms/2Cbi98I

There are times when tapping a “tweet heart” just feels wrong. But this story needs those taps.

And that's why prostitution should be legalised and regulated. It's very easy to exploit someone when they are scared of the police.

Amazing writing. Encouraged by the investment the Times made into this piece. I will be haunted by this story.

"Imagine her fall suddenly suspended - her body freeze-framed in midair" - this is a journalist writing about a death, not Salmon Rushdie writing the opening of The Satanic Verses. Tacky and talentless.

This article makes no sense. It says the woman was well familar with ritual arrests, yet she panicked and fell to her doom when she realized one was coming. Where have all the editors gone......long time passing...............
