TO THOSE ASKING: "WHY DIDN'T THEY EVACUATE?" *Answer* She was visiting grandparents in SW Georgia. The grandfather ASSURED the child's father that "modular homes like this could withstand winds up to 150mph." Unfortunately, the human body cannot.

Nor can trees, siding, shingles, and lots of other debris...which is now travelling at 150mph at your stationary modular home. Your home will survive. But can the people inside survive the projectiles launched at them through the windows/doors? Unfortunately not.

So terribly sad. Really feel for all the family. Can’t imagine how her grandfather must be feeling, he obviously thought it was safest there and had good intentions. I hope they all have lots of support going forward, not just now but down the track as well.

I do not understand why anyone “rode out the hurricane “ there was a mandatory evacuation in place. Why did anyone stay? A fire fighter and an 11 year old child among the dead. I still can’t fathom why anyone stayed behind and expected to call 911.

The area where this child died was not under an evacuation order. Hundreds of miles, from the Florida coast through Alabama and Georgia, were ripped to shreds by this hurricane. The entire affected area couldn’t have possibly evacuated.

Thank you. I’m really trying to understand why people stayed. I did not realize the child was not in the evacuation area.
