The man who invented the marshmallow test has died. Walter Mischel devised an experiment on delayed gratification, involving preschoolers and sweets. His work helped redefine how personality is understood.https://nyti.ms/2NbCrps

Did he ever take into account the idea that some kids don't like marshmallows that much?

That would be the marshmallow test that is yet another example of findings in social psychology that are now viewed as suspect?

RIP... this research was discredited later - omitted variable bias: once household income was taken into account the delay to take the marshmallow disappeared. #KeepAdvancingScience #OmittedVariableBias #MarsmallowTest

I do not think this means that the research was discredited; it means it was misinterpreted.

Sure. The theory was flawed. As science advances so our understanding of how the world works will change.

I'm not even sure the theory was flawed. I just think popular representations were inaccurate.

Well, you probably know more than I do about this subject. But the experiment just told us that a certain property correlated with a certain kind of success. That doesn't mean it's responsible for that success.

What if the kids who ate the marshmallows first came from families where they weren’t allowed sugar? My childhood sucked. 😩
