Fact check: President Trump rejected the official estimate from the government of Puerto Rico that nearly 3,000 people died from Hurricane Maria through a series of misleading or false claimshttps://nyti.ms/2NfSwuc

In his tweets, President Trump cited an outdated tally that officials had acknowledged almost immediately was too low and misleadingly suggested that doubt over the tally did not emerge until “a long time later”http://nyti.ms/2NfSwuc

The 3,000 person figure that’s been used as Puerto Rico’s death toll comes from an estimate in a study by independent researchers at George Washington University and was commissioned by the government of Puerto Ricohttp://nyti.ms/2NfSwuc

Researchers found government data documented 16,608 deaths from September 2017 to February 2018 — 2,975 more deaths than under predicted mortality rates. In other words, they explicitly tried to avoid counting people who “died for any reason, like old age”http://nyti.ms/2NfSwuc

Why does no one say show me the numbers. Because no one went down there an counted the bodies. They used a compute model to ESTIMATE the total of casualties caused before during and after the storm.

An “outdated tally.” And that 3k could include people who simply fled the island but the NYT is so damn partisan they want to act like that 3k number is an indisputable fact and it’s not

This number is very misleading but you are used to misleading people! The # Pres Trump got was much less then the 3,000 the professors came up with! Many of these deaths are contributed to effects from the hurricane. Elderly people being compromised, power outages and etc....

He was looking at the Initial estimate of 64. The 3,000 was a latter estimate based on the quote that "More people died than was USUAL after the hurricane" leading one to believe that deaths in the 1000s are normal for shithole PR. Keep in mind the trailers of food left to rot...

Yawn. Keep beating a dead horse. Two different numbers. Don't play us for stupid. Storm hits, people die, #1. Liberal government controlled by unions screws population and blackmails relief efforts, people die, #2.
