I sang “Advance Australia Fair” long before this child’s parents were born, & never once did it cross my mind that “fair” means “white”. When the poem was penned “fair” meant beautiful (not white), & it matches the Australian value of giving everyone “a fair go”. Fair means fair.

It’s the “young” that was objected to as it refers to a young country and so implies those there before 1770 are not considered.
-
In the interview the girl objects to the word “fair”. Yes the country of “Australia” is young, but the land & its indigenous culture are old. When this poem was written there is no doubt that indigenous people were not thought of as “Australians”. Thankfully, that has changed.
-
Are you away of the “Welcome to Country & acknowledgement of the traditional custodians of the land” that is given at virtually every public gathering in Australia? That acknowledgment is rightly given and the anthem is rightly sung. The anthem is for everyone now.

Nine year old, its all parents telling her to do this. No nine year old thinks about things like this. Or even understands it. This is all parents coaching.
-
I just want to say that at 7 years old I found that racist second verse of our own Anthem in a book in my schools library and took it to my mom questioning it and told her I didnt want to sing the song anymore. Kids are more inquisitive if you allow them free thinking.
-
I don't believe you. You are voicing in defense. Justification stance.
-
Okay
welp
And this is why proper debates are dying lol enjoy your one and only view on the world. It will keep your bubble safe -
Tell it to Dr. Phil. See if he believes you! Share the racist verse.
-
Oh I see you don’t understand debate. Just diversion. Thats okay US education has failed all of us somewhere. Dr. Phil? Like the therapist? Are you high? What does that have to do with anything? Am I google? Look up the verse on your fancy phone. men...got to do everything for u

I understand debate as long as it is logical. We were all kids, around kids, Growing up around kids younger than us. Base is weak.

Really?? A nine year old is protesting about racist? Where has she got that impression from, I wonder

-
As a boy, I was struck by the cruelty and ignorance of the racist backlash during the Boston desegregation riots in the 70s. But my parents were, well, openly racist. Perhaps, she has her own mind?pic.twitter.com/NeyMbAJ5cO

Ken, Nessi one of those bible quoting, Palestine hating Zionists. Just walk away.
-
I don’t mind spending a small amount of time sharing something rational with an irrational person. It may aid them in making better decisions down the road.
-
I’m not that optimistic.
-
Understandable, especially under the prevailing cultural-political circumstances. I am much more of a meliorist than optimist.

When I was that age, I too didn’t want to stand for the US pledge. I firmly did not believe in it, still protest it till this day. Parents had nothing to do with it. I had the internet which helped me educate myself to form my own opinions, this girl too. She’s bright asf.
-
If it’s on the internet...... it must be true.
-
Do you really believe that lie? That’s not true. When I was growing up, we were taught how to distinguish fact from fiction. Research skills, knowing the diff from a bogus publication and scholarly articles is damn easy. Kids nowadays are brilliant with that.
-
Actually the data on that doesn't back you up at all. Not only are kids but adults as well are easily duped buy online BS. Isn't that what liberals have been complaining the Russians did in the last election. Interesting how everybody on the left wants to have it both ways
