The NFL has a new tackling rule, turning some of the most routine tackles into penalties. But how did the new rule affect the first full day of games in the 2018 football season?https://nyti.ms/2CEh1MF

The penalty used to be 'spearing' where you used your helmet as a weapon. Then everyone talked about the 'weapons' a team had vs players. All of a sudden there are head injuries bc spearing not called. Teach them how to tackle. It's a game.

Really hurt the @Browns against the @steelers. Myles Garrett tackled Big Ben a split second after he released the ball, landing on him as he took him to the ground. His momentum and the laws of gravity prohibited him from doing anything otherwise. Penalty resulted in a Pitt TD.

Has to be positive that deliberately injuring another player is no longer acceptable in the game

The NFL games will eventually become “touch football” with all these rules to protect the athletes. Stats will then be inflated but the balls deflated.

Apart from the @NFL being run by a fascist @nflcommish. A history of negligence regarding #concussion. The helmet changes are welcomed. What about grabbing the face mask? Did you see what happened to @saquon yesterday? That should be an automatic ejection and significant fine.

"Routine tackles" not outlawed. Vicious attempts to maim are the issue. The game will be better as players need to tackle, not simply bash each other.
