        That's wonderful. But actually, from all I read and heard from peers and many women in STEM is that girls and young women didn't need encouragement. Their teachers, professors and employers did.

        The engineering technician classes I teach are 90% male. The boys don't need any further pushing.

        The ratio of male to female in engineering tech hasn't changed in 50 years! We need to push for diversity to improve the field.

        Because male students overwhelm those fields and don't need the encouragement. Encouraging women and POC will bring new perspectives that might develop research in ways the old boys club overlooks.

        Read Clearfield and Tilcsik's "Meltdown" for a great summary of why diverse teams work better, and diverse companies are more resilient and more profitable.
