Had high hopes but was so disappointed in this movie. So stereotyped: The 'great free West' patronised the 'backward east'. Yuck. Not sure why ppl like it so much. The story was also predictable.

ie. Chinese in Mainland, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, HK,Taiwan,US,Aus,Canada etc all have their differences, despite being ethnically Chinese. The film also stipulates this. Should not assume that all-Asian cast would necessarily translate to success in China. 2/2

Just because the story focuses on a Chinese-American and an ethinically Chinese family from Singapore does not mean it would resonate with the mainland Chinese and vice versa. May share some similar traditions and customs, but there are also differences. 1/2

As a mainlander Chinese who is now in Canada..I’m not crazy about this movie at all since its topic isn’t something that would attract people in mainland China. What’s popular in mainland is the drama called Story of Yanxi Palace which is about emperor’s consorts and concubines

Could it be that this is the only Chinese wedding where no one talks in Mandarin Cantonese or some other eastern language? Never been to a wedding that did not result in another language being spoken by many.

Haven't seen it. Was planning too but the price of movie 🎫 is absurd. I will just save it when 'The Favourite' start showing in cinemas.
