Must be tough for black Japanese ppl to decide what minority they wanna identify as. If it's a half black half white it's a no brainer they always say "I'm black"

I really hope that Naomi takes this. I like her, and it would be a huge boost for her. Serena has already done so much to solidify herself as one of the all-time greats.

I still give it to Serena. She is admiring to square up. Naomi is still coming up at 20. The star is her limit I pray.

She did it; Naomi won! I’m proud of them both. Serena is undoubtedly an all-time great. I only hope that Naomi can continue to play well enough to join her on that elite stage one day.

I wish Naomi all the best. Serena Williams, congrats too. Losing a final in American soil will be discouraging to you but there's another opportunity.

An example of when dual citizenship works well. It was very smart and strategic of her father to have her play for Japan. Good luck to her and her sister!

Her father is from Haiti! She lives in the U.S. but her mother told her to represent Japan because she would make more money. Her father was there Thursday night when she bet Madison Keys whose father is also black.

Not a best reason to represent your country. I hope is best for her to clarify that statement.

Real slick lede, y'all didn't want to call her Japanese because of her Haitian Father and God forbid you mention her Haitian heritage. What's difficult in saying she the first Japanese-Haitian? I swear the media is awful.
