I'm totally naive about political science so why are we still in Afghanistan, would love both sides of the isles to break it down for me since I feel like I'm the only one not getting it.

Location. Location. Location. Russian military is stationed in Central Asia. Iran is west of Afghanistan, Pakistan is SE, a land route from China to Iran goes through Afghanistan, and so could pipelines from Middle East to Asia, or Russia to India. Location. Location. Location.

Alternatively we could just kill them all and go into Pakistan and eradicate the ones harbored by the Pakistani government.

Just because they worked under Obama does not make their opinion the only option. Look at how their advise on Syria led him to let down the Free Syrian Army.

*if* such an approach were to have any hope of success, it must needs be at the hand of a statesman; unprincipled simpleton trump can engender only chaos and destruction.
