Technology-driven hyper competitiveness traps young people in snarl of #sleepanomie No behavior more characteristic of what was adolescence than ‘sleep’. Tragic sick generation at helm making young sicker.

Been saying this for yrs! My son was & is a night owl struggled with schooling. We'd joke his body clock was set on Tokyo time. He struggled in school but thrives at a 3rd shift job.

But knowing they can sleep later only means the will go to sleep later so the result will be nil but creates problems for parents who have to go to work

Another GREAT Dem idea. Dems. Why not just move to an early evening Night School. It would keep the kids off the street, out of the mall, and off the prime time TV. And they could all have part time jobs.. Classes from 5:00 PM to 10:00.

I always wondered why people keep wanting to change how stuff is done? Were these people not also taught this way? What was good enough for them is somehow bad for a younger generation? I am all about advances but wouldnt these arguments say that they themselves are not educated

I had to be at school at 7:30 in high school. My kids start at 9. I am a morning person and I still think it works way better for them. No standing outside in the dark to catch the bus before the sun comes up. Even if my son goes to sleep at midnight, he can get 8 hours.

On another note not sure why he would need to go to sleep at 12 on a school night but you do you.

Well, a major point of adjusting school times is that teenagers internal clocks do change and they tend to stay awake later, sleep later and it is difficult to get enough sleep.

They stay awake later because parents don't make them go to sleep or have them on a schedule. Shit I am a night person and I like to stay up late but I still have to get up early.

I am not arguing with you but I also think that it doesn't do the kids any favors when it comes to other parts of their life. There are gonna be times, say like a job, where you are going to have to perform after getting 6 or 7 hours of sleep.

Usually when they would have a job like that they would not be teens anymore. That means their brains are different and this is no longer an issue.

No surprise here. I did terrible in the first few periods of class. Teenage brains are wired differently. It's about time we get our education system back on track.
