“Chinese people really dislike this kind of westernized Chinese culture,” a film critic said, comparing "Crazy Rich Asians" to General Tso’s chicken and fortune cookieshttps://nyti.ms/2CsX6Al

Highlighting this "fortune cookie" line is unfair, given that the article is about how China doesn't want to acknowledge the immigrant diaspora and their unique ex-pat view. This movie is about rich Singaporean Chinese, not Mainlanders, and is not watered-down General Tso's.

A lot of asian countries dont care much about the immigrant experience. Like Korean-American stories are not popular in Korea. It’s a similar thing.

Chinese people don't struggle with identity issue the way Asian Americans do,They don't care about whites appearing in Asian stories.

Typecasting Asians for years in American movies is offensive. I’m all for an all asian cast big box office hit. But I’m also asian and I love General Tso’s chicken so what do I know?

A major theme of the movie is the dynamic of mainland chinese and american chinese, and the identity crisis of the latter. It clearly went over their heads if these critics dont see themselves playing the role of the antagonists from the film.

Strangely enough, there's more than one sub-set of Asian cultural values. In any case, great movie, just not representative of mainland Chinese, yet. Give it 15 years.
