“If the academy had intended to float the popular Oscar idea as a trial balloon, it seemed like everyone in Hollywood was armed with a dart,” writes our new Carpetbagger columnist @kylebuchananhttps://nyti.ms/2M7dV3e

This was the right decision. The Academy should not start recognizing films based on commercial performance. Once this happens it's only a matter of time before an Oscar becomes just another generic prize.

What the hell are you talking about? I'm sure the Black Panther will be nominated for Best Picture. It had universal critical acclaim, not just financial success. Currently at 97% fresh.

The movie was ok, I’m not sure what all this hype is about.

It was a ridiculous idea anyway. Would have really cheapened the whole affair even further.

good! it was, like the best animated film category, nothing more then a token gesture to keep from "infecting" their precious "best" picture category with "commoner filth".

yep, "black panther" is a POS. But, NYT has married itself to sinking POS-s so no surprise in @Nytimes promoting it :))))) #CancelNYTimes
