Drop the medical jargon, doctors are told: Use “kidney” instead of “renal,” “sudden” or “short-term” instead of “acute” and “irregular pulse” instead of “atrial fibrillation.”https://nyti.ms/2MQLKuL

No, no, no, no, no! Atrial fibrillation is precise; irregular pulse describes many events. Dumbing down is not the answer; communicating with your patients is. If you have renal failure, learning that it refers to your kidneys takes eight seconds. The rest takes time.

This poses a bioethics question with regard to patient- doctor relationship and how this has been approached so far in the mainstream. Isn't the bureaucratic stiffness of systems in place more to blame for ineffective communication rather than usage of medical terminology?

It's a great idea in some ideal world. My doctors do not have time in the 15 minutes allotted to them to explain a thing. A letter from them in plain English? I don't think my insurance covers that, and if it doesn't, they won't write it.
