Clearly disposing of their colonial past merely meant giving the keys to the National Museum to a much more incompetent people who couldn't even maintain a building's fire wall.

A great loss if destroyed. Many US monuments representing our cultural heritage have been toppled or destroyed, not by fire, but by radicals, as the Buddhas of Bamiyan.

This stuff makes me so sad. We’re not just losing precious artifacts, but pieces of a country’s culture and heritage and a chunk of world history.

I find it so weird how people say the culture of a country is so important yet today they say it’s more important to mix all the cultures together so in the future you won’t know what the hell is going on

And....and....and....what will be lost in the destruction of our cultural heritage...,the tearing down of statues, the destruction of our history courses in school, the disrespect for our flag and anthem, the tearing down of the south.......the loss of our identity....all Gone!

NY Times' readers, I'm Brazilian, and what I can say about this is that the Museum is driven by people from the left wing, from the same group of Lula (already in prison) and these people will soon be caged as well.

Lula is the only politician that can prevent this type of disaster happening again. He loves our Country, arts, education and culture, not at all like the greedy vultures now in power, and that’s the reason he is now a political prisoner. #FreeLula
