Is this the New Yorker Festival as in
@NewYorker? If that’s the case, I’ll be cancelling a subscription. -
I view this as a positive. We need to be breaking down echo chambers and coming together to share alternative perspectives. Imagine the Bannon folks attending this event who will be exposed to our alternative views? I think that’s worth having him, and asking tough questions.
-
I direct you to the excellent thread by
@rgay on the topic of our privilege to think this. -
Those are valid points. I invite you to check out
@karaswisher thread on thishttps://twitter.com/karaswisher/status/1036707116998901761?s=21 … -
Giving him a platform, argumentative or no, is still a national platform. And if you don’t think he & his ilk will make hay from it, you have not been paying attention. If we want white supremacy ended, it is up to each of us to say, “no more.”
-
Think we can agree to disagree on his presence. 110% agreed on 0 tolerance of racist white supremacy. I disagree this gives a platform; isn’t a softball FauxNews interview. He has opinions and, sadly, influence; true journalism begs 4 perspective, not meant to make you feel good.
-
I think you're right, but you must have the very best to debate him. He's clever, ruthless+ determined. He will do his best to create mayhem, hate +division. He will defer+ deflect, talk over +denigrate other speakers. There are responsibilities attached to yr decision.
#Resist -
Absolutely agreed. And the article says “I have every intention of asking him difficult questions and engaging in a serious and even combative conversation,”. I’d love to see them really put the fire under his feet, on record.

Bannon is OUT! Thank you,
@NewYorker -
But why was he invited in the first place? To create an immediate political shit storm?? Because that’s what it seems like. We all knew what would happen... and that’s ugly, not because it’s unfair, but because EVERYONE HATES BANNON.
-
David Remnick explained his thinking in a New Yorker post. Realized it wasn't a good idea today.

Thanks for your response; I will find that on a larger screen. It’s happening fast. But was it Remnick who invited him in the first place?

For why? For what? Is he contributing to society in a meaningful way? Why is he important?
-
Why is he important? Maam, he was the main brain of the Trump campaign, and a heavy influence on the alt right movement. Love him or hate him, it's worth understanding and discussing, and better yet, debating him and his ideas.
-
His views are all sufficiently documented. It's unconscionable to give him more visibility.
-
Everyone saying we need to hear his side hasn’t been happening acting attention. That’s not conscious peoples fault. They can use google and we can move forward.
-
I look at this "consider his side" argument as another form of sealioning. Those who demand it already know his side and offer nothing constructive.
