I think we've narrowed in on one of the problems with government assistance. A person is not obligated to give money to a charity. Charities can only give in the amounts their budgets allow. Government obligates all of us and recipients of government charity feel entitled to it.

And I agree that when you are in a better situation living on welfare than by having an actual job, something is seriously wrong and this kills incentive for people to work.

Something is seriously wrong but not on the wellfare side. The jobs suck ass, labor has no rights and wages are low despite high demand for workers. Create better jobs and working conditions. There are people working 3 jobs who barely get by. America is a bad fucking punchline.

After Hurricane Harvey there are plenty of people here in Houston that still live in their devastated homes with no help from anyone. They had no insurance and are on their own.

That sucks & the US government should help them out. But Puerto Rico desperately needs help, too. If the US has the money to have the world's largest military & increase its budget every year & to give tax cuts to the rich, it should be able to allow it's citizens some dignity.

Ok... we (dutiful tax payers) do solemnly promise to divert $$ --millions per month-- heretofore used to fund Mar-a-Lago food-scarfing / golfing, &/or '1st family business travel'-- to instead ensure our fellow citizens have food / shelter / medicine... #PuertoRico

Why should I be paying for a hotel when they should be at home cleaning up the mess! Oh yeah, I'm supposed to pay for that too! Research what Houstonites did to fix their own city.

Bring the facts to show that these Americans were not attempting to fix their housing. Lack of clean water, electricity, and materials would make rebuilding difficult. Add in injuries & medical conditions exacerbated by the sub human living conditions...

Can the Trump administration do anything right? They should have been out of the hotels by now but Trump wants to solve it by throwing paper towels at them. That doesn't rebuild anything. They didn't even know how many people died in the hurricane.

I hope you never experience that kind of devastation. PR is a territory of the US. Death tolls over 4000.

All of that is true, my state experienced a 1000 year flood so i know about devastation, lost my home in a hurricane as well. We got off of our butts and rebuilt we didnt sit around for hand outs.

I guess I did. Good for you. I guess my problem with your statement is that you provide no evidence that people are not working to get their lives on track. I suspect that your 1000 year flood--was that Maryland?--was given some help and a lot of it.

We have given more to PR........ the evidence is people are in hotels instead of working to rebuild thier homes. These people have been neutered by the PR gov to rely soly on them for help and they are taken advantage of. No south carolina. Hugo 1989 and the flood of 2015.

Puerto Rico is one of if not the largest welfare territory in the United States. Mooches personified.
