In Opinion Op-Ed contributor Ría Tabacco Mar writes, "Far too often, black students are humiliated, shamed or banned from school because of bias against natural black hair."https://nyti.ms/2Pdw9SG

Not my experience at all. I grew up in Detroit city and have lived in many parts of the country, rich and poor. I'm not white and have gotten racist gestures made to me by blacks, whites, hispanics, etc. I rise above - I'm not a victim. Why are you promoting victimhood?

Yeah that’s the least likely place to endure racism revolving around your hair. You’re trying to silence people on a matter that doesn’t even apply to you

Because the people who make the rules know nothing about black people let alone black hair and use their lazy "colourblind" thinking as a way to not understand that our hair let alone it's needs aren't the same as theirs.

Also black people express themselves a lot through their hair esp women and it's another way to stifle that, due to misogynoir.

At least we can always count on racists to rush into the comments and prove the op-ed’s point.

Should also probably remember to not press the "comment" button and the dozens of characters followed by 'reply' if you cared that little

I am a kinaesthetic learner Mr Clown. The comment and the characters being the action to trigger the non-subscription. I care a great deal for many NYT articles.

I think natural hair is beautiful. It's 2018! I don't understand these rules against natural hair, colors or cuts.

I can't speak against every cut but the one in the picture is about as natural as Donald Trumps tan, and looks equally stupid in my view.

Misleading to say the least. It says it’s all about black hair. It’s not it’s about several different styles. I don’t agree with any discrimination based on looks but how you present yourself means something and this is why nyt gets called fake news
