Not sure how to respond to a misbehaving child? Rather than punishments or rewards, try empathy and listening.https://nyti.ms/2NpeCGA

Works for most ... but lets be real, some children are just arseholes. That, too - is a real possibility

Empathy and listening is how we got here, and it obviously backfired. Try spankings again and we might not have pussyhat wearing fools.

You can explain and listen and sympathize but there are rules. Cars do not explain or stop and animals will soon teach them not to touch if it’s unwanted. I’d teach kids that they are not the center of the world and can do as they please.

No matter how irrational or difficult a moment might seem, we can respond in a way that says: “I see you. I’m here to understand and help. I’m on your side. We’ll figure this out together.”

These comments 👇🏽 🙄 I got my ass kicked as a kid for playing up. Taught me the solution to something you disagree with is violence. My kids get love and words. Stern words sometimes. But I talk them through it. I feel that is a better option, but each to their own.

Most kids are lost, you have to ask them reason why they did this and that and try understanding them better before carrying out any measure

Try all that even when they get a gun, point it at your face and pull the trigger. Then say: “It’s my fault I must have done something wrong.”
