The death of the runner Mollie Tibbetts has ignited a conversation about the harassment and fears women face every time they go running. "It's exhausting."https://nyti.ms/2PgZtaZ

So true. I used to be harassed when I ran. Key is to always run where you are not isolated.

I never run in isolated areas, and yet have experienced harassment many times on a run.

It’s a sad reminder that on our group runs we always have someone who is (albeit kind of jokingly) asigned as “security” to try and predict any oncoming trouble, generally, but especially where the women in our group are concerned. Running should be a complete escape for anyone.

Important conversation! When a man exposed himself to me in suburban St Louis, the police made me feel shame for it occurring. It was my shorts and sports top/bra that caused him to stop his car, get out and drop his pants in front of me and the kids playing in the street

It's a cultural mindset that needs to change. Put the responsibility where it really belongs, on the observer or predator.

A woman I know brags online she has run the same trail 2,300 times. Bad idea. Also, women please do not post your Strava data online where GPS-based "favorite routes" are mentioned. That data is a gold mine for stalkers and assailants. @Jensviews22

It's not about gender. No one should go for a run where it's not safe for you to do so. Just because you can does not mean you should.

I always run with my concealed handgun and thankfully I’ve never had to use it. I usually just have to tell people that harrass me that I’m carrying and they just walk away.

I swear a truck was following me one time I went running. Felt so uncomfortable I ran into a nearby building.

This FEAR is just playing into the hands of the GOP, who wants the average American citizen SCARED about something ALL the time. It helps them CONTROL the population the way they want, while they do as they damned well please.

Perfect solution! That is, for men to be allowed to run only in specific, walled locations so they cannot attack women who then could be allowed to roam freely in their neighborhoods. Excellent idea!
