Fxck Canada and YMCA Trudeau. He dissed Trump and is now, rightfully, paying the price. WTF does Canada bring to the table for the U.S.? Molson and Maple Syrup? PFFFFFTTTTTTT.

Please do know many Canadians do not approve of @JustinTrudeau. We are waiting for him to step up and make this work with our American friends. We are disappointed that he goes galavanting around instead of addressing pressing issues #NAFTA

Canadians want Trudeau to aggressively defend Canada’s interests. Trump thinks trade agreements should be a zero sum, with winners (US) and losers (everyone else), rather than something meant to be mutually beneficial. Why should Canada accept an agreement that means a net loss?

You are right. I understand Trump’s motives. So what is the better alternative to Canada’s voice in #NAFTA?

I don’t understand your question. It’s a trilateral agreement; Canada and Mexico have already agreed not to make any bilateral agreements with the US. All three signatories have to agree if NAFTA is to be changed. Tearing up NAFTA means returning to WTO international rules.

Yet it seems like US and Mexico just made a bilateral agreement?

They can’t do that. There are three signatories to the NAFTA agreement—it’s a contract—and all three signatories need to agree to make changes. The US and Mexico have made a preliminary agreement on changes for a part of NAFTA. Unsurprisingly, Trump is using deceptive messaging.

I understand. It is just concerning that Canada has been on the sidelines for so long.
