"Crazy Rich Asians" had a decrease of only 6 percent in ticket sales compared to its opening weekend. That kind of audience “hold” is extremely rare and indicates exceptional word-of-mouth sales.https://nyti.ms/2P907aC

It was a good movie...definetly worth watching...it is a classic romantic comedy with some really good humor...an over all good movie...that's why it's doing so well..

Yeah, how about in the US? Hollywood is notorious for making movies about other cultures and using White actors.

Yeah, this is the new My Big Fat Greek Wedding (except this is a good movie). The producers are going to be billionaires, and that's fantastic.

Hot take: @CrazyRichMovie is not the pinnacle of Asian cinema. Here's a list of a few better movies -In the Mood for Love. -Oldboy. -Hard Boiled. -Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. -Hero. -The Raid. -Battle Royale. -The Handmaiden -Most older Jackie Chan. -Everything by Kurosawa.

Asia is an entire continent. And that movie is not even from Asia. That comparison is wrong on so many levels.

Yes I'm familiar with geography, thanks. The movie wouldn't get nearly as much hype if Americans can read subtitles. I'm just putting out a list of far superior movies, made by and starring 'Asian' people.

Which is still a weird comparison. Korean cinema is totally different from the Chinese. The Chinese in itself has different aspects, depending on wether it is HK, or the rest. Japanese is a league of its own. And dont even get me started on Indian, Thai or Philippines.

I agree with all of that, just wish it was actually good and deserving of all the acclaim. Didn't hear a peep about Okja or Snowpiercer, two actually good movies, made by an Asian director and featuring Asian actors.

And there is the funny thing: while "Crazy Rich Asians" is actually an American film, starring an Asian-American cast, "Snowpiercer" is actually a South-Korean film, starring an nearly all-white US-cast.

They're good English language films. Which is more than I can say for the American film.

There are plenty of good or even amazing ones. I try not to let boarders cloud my judgement, when it comes to film. The American film has a huge variety. From small indy dramas to full blown Marvel craziness, there is something for everybody.
