A Times columnist tried to answer questions from a test that determines admission to NYC's most selective high schools. "Suffice to say I would not be attending Stuyvesant or Bronx High School of Science were I now an eighth grader," he writes.https://nyti.ms/2wnnYvi

That says a whole lot more about the Times' hiring practices than it does about the testing material.

Is this really shocking? Journalism majors are not really known for being the cream of the crop intellectually. It's one step above a Gender Studies major in difficulty.

The question didn’t ask for the best revision, it asked for a precise revision. The other answers were vague. I don’t see what the problem is 🙄

I took the SHSAT,I got a 466, which was slightly below the cutoff score of about 480, for Brooklyn Tech&Brooklyn Latin,I ended up getting into the summer discovery program for TBLS,these exams are difficult enough even with test prep, which most low performing students don't get.

If you want the brightest students, keep the tests. If you prefer equality of outcome (i.e., everybody should be able to attend), dumb down the tests. What you do depends on what you want.
