Right now people are saying it stands for something it didn't stand for when it was erected. I'm opposed to racism btw. But pieces of concrete won't fix anything. What about the buildings slavers donated money to? Tear them down? Return the money to the family? The highways?

Those buildings and roads provide a public service. What do the statues that we're erected well after the CW, when POC were not allowed to vote, do but instill a sense of dread or fear in people those donors felt should still be property.

Most of University buildings are from grants. Hospitals. There's a lot of tearing down that will do nothing. How people feel comes from inside their hearts, not from buildings and things around them. I guess it's an extension of the victim syndrome. What to blame after statues?

Back when the democrats were small government conservatives, yeah. But that has almost nothing to do with what they are today.

Yes it does. @TheDemocrats and #liberals were racist back then and they are both racist today. They just hide it more cleverly today.

Confederate soldiers were traitors to the U.S. and fought to prolong slavery. They should be in history books as such and not honored or respected. It was built in the early 20th century to intimidate blacks with the threat of violence.https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/08/take-the-statues-down/536727/ …
