Hey @nytimes — your tweet/alert is worded incorrectly. Sen. McCain is discontinuing TREATMENT, not CARE. Hospice pros say that wording matters in ensuring people understand end-of-life choices.

I was thinking that same thing. Sad enough, the story. But why they are refusing to talk “hospice” I’m not sure... They’re already talking about him in past tense. How sad. For indeed he IS in hospice care.
-
Wait, isn’t hospice a building? Or is it synonymous to palliative? I would expect someone like a Senator to be treated at home.
-
No. It is CARE that is determined to be for comfort. Not therapeutic. It’s got nothing to do with a designated “place” which is why Sanjay Gupta on
@CNN screwed up this morning. He should know better@drsanjaygupta -
Hospice can also be a place. My mother went from her home to a hospice in her last days.
-
It’s called “hospice” because that’s where she received HOSPICE care. First and foremost, it is a form of care delivery. It’s a fine point, but necessary to understand. Proponents of end of life care would like all people to understand this important point.

Unfortunate that his last memories will be of a country in disarray ... That causes me to think all sorts of thoughts that I will just avoid today and instead will wish peace & comfort for Senator McCain and his family
-
You are so right! After everything he went through-I remember when he was being held & how he looked so broken coming off a plane when they were finally released-I not a fan of his politics but we are all Americans.
-
I’m not American & I’m certainly not Republican but he did stand up & im sorry for him & his family
-
I understand & you are right about that.

Even tho I have been a long time Dem, I have always admired McCain. Always the statesman.

I'm pretty sure Democrats like him more than Republicans do. Many Reps will be glad to see him gone.
-
He began his career as a traitor and is ending it as a traitor. Of course liberals love him.

Thoughts and prayers to the McCain family. I know how hard this can be.
-
I went through it with my dad. I understand too, and I feel for his family and beloved friends. I don’t agree with everything he did, but when he spoke out the way he did condemning
@RandPaul , I was truly impressed & inspired. He stood for America.

Even when I haven't agreed with John McCain's views on some issues (and there are many times when I HAVE agreed with him), I've respected and appreciated his sacrifice and service for our country. I wish him peace.
