I heard that this decision was made at higher levels - Martin Burvill, Sr VP (Irvine, CA) was named by a source of mine - the guy who initially said, "No" when customer service mgmt asked to take off the restrictions.

Agreed. As a #SantaClara County taxpayer, I am not surprised @verizon took advantage of the regulatory changes pushed though by their bootlicker @AjitPaiFCC Time to put well reasoned rules and regard back on the Telecoms

This is wrong. Net neutrality is not the *amount* of data you consume, it is the *content* of the data that is prioritized. It’s damaging to advocates for the latter when you confuse it with the former. Do better.

NYT is wrong and they should know it. Quantity vs. content is a basic distinction.

Isn't the driver of content filtering the pricing scheme that CSPs will levy on firms (maybe/probably competitors) to operate at high enough speed on their platforms to maintain consumer interest?

Net Neutrality concerns are usually about specifically slowing particular sites and speeding others. However, this situation is a valid example of what can happen if that is allowed, even though the throttling in this case was related to volume not content.

Right - I guess my question jumped past that to the point where those being limited would pay more $ to end the practice, such that CSPs can strongarm their competitors.

But they would still risk slow downs after they reach the new $99 threshold. The only resolution would be an unlimited plan to start THEN turning off the slow down upon emergency request.

However, without net nuetrality laws in place, even a user with unlimited plan could run into throttling issues, because the providers would be limiting sites based on how much the sites are willing to pay, which has nothing to do with the users. End result: no current fix exists
