From Times @readercenter: Readers offer advice to this year's incoming freshmen about whether a college degree is still worth it, and where theirs has led them.https://nyti.ms/2nW7XJb

Fuck no, it's not worth it. Not unless you get yours paid for in full by someone else. If you have to take out loans, it's not worth it. A job that requires a degree only pays $15/hr. That doesn't cover the loan payments. It just covers what you need to live on.

Absolutely worth it. We just took our kid to his college yesterday and the network he began to develop within the first two hours will help him for life. I also don't believe you have to spend $150000 on an undergraduate degree. There are other great schools out there.

Education is always worthwhile, but it needs to be very clear that an education is no guarantee of anything. There is nothing wrong with being educated for the sake of education itself. Not everything needs a $value to be worthwhile to pursue.

That's easy to say when you're not saddled with the debt that comes with that education.

The comment stands,an education is worthwhile for the sake of education. If one doesn't feel the cost is worth it, than don't spend the money on it. There are many ways of getting a good education that don't involve spending large sums of money. Research some if you're interested

In Europe it’s also free. You conveniently forgot to mention that. Also, any sources that only a small percentage qualifies?

Get a part-time job, study hard, and avoid frats/sororities and drinking. And read and understand the student loan contracts before signing.

Even with what you would consider an "employable" degree, chances are they will end up with a low-wage job. That's our current economy. It's shitty, but it's reality. I've met people with business degrees, marketing degrees, degrees in various sciences . . . all in low-wage jobs.
