Q: What’s so bad about calling our workplace our family? A: “We’re like a family here” tends to be used in ways that really disadvantage workers.https://nyti.ms/2PjzlNy

You realize you're not really in the family when they hand you your pink slip. "Downsizing".

I’m in HR and cringe when I hear this! I tell employees to not put their employers name on their social media, to make the accounts private and not friend coworkers on their accounts. Employers are snooping and they are NOT family or friends in the end!

A coworker of mine once investigated my fb so at first disagreement she said about "that travel you did, in 2013 to abroad, someone who travel like this don't need a job like ours" - my fb is all private now. I learned the hard way...

This reminds me of when my old company seemed to want us to have a best friend at work. Kept work & private life separate. Never worked with anyone I truly wanted as a “best friend” under any circumstances.

If you’ve ever picked up a newspaper, you see there are a variety of sections, like sports, travel, opinion. It’s not all politics and crime.

No, it is not. Something that I learned years ago while working at Disney. That’s when I came to the realization that my family would never discourage my having a child because it would interfere with my work. Nor would my family fire me. Lesson thankfully learned.

Oh no, I hear this statement at work and it makes me cringe. It's hypocritical and totally fake. Why do people have a need to say some bull shit like that is beyond me. It's like being in high school all over again. Sorry, "I'm an army of one."

This is why people should really try their hardest to get a job every 2-3 years. If you work at one place for too long they start taking your commitment for granted, and employers often refuse to acknowledge that the success of the company isnt really a priority to its employees.

God, am I glad my workplace isn’t my family. There’s a sister I would never work with and if “uncle Jim” showed up for work, we would need the police.

Corporations where revenue streams are kept at the top and distributed unequally ARE NOT FAMILY oriented to 85% of their workforce. So why work for them? To pay the bank that authorized a 330% increase in house pricing? Government did nothing but bail the banks out #FightFascism
