I’ve worked with elderly LGBT people in advocacy groups, and this happens all the time. Quite often, seniors are forced back into the closet after being out for decades. It’s terrible.

And I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s important for elderly LGBT couples to marry because there’d be a lot of legal hoop-jumping for a non-married partner to be able to make health and end-of-life decisions for their loved one! (I kinda think I shouldn’t post this. Here goes.)

Totally. Craziest thing I heard was a assisted living facility refusing to shave a transgender woman’s face. I let her lie in bed imobile, with a beard. They were too uncomfortable to help her shave.

If this country is truly free, shouldn't turning them away be perfectly exceptable?

I guess that comes down to how we interpret the meaning, rights and responsibilities of said freedom. Freedom TO discriminate or freedom FROM discrimination?

Freedom to live by your own beliefs and if people don't like you then you are free to find or create somewhere where they do. Should they be allowed to exist as they wish? sure but that shouldnt mean I have to let them in my club or house or whatever, should it?

But why the need to discriminate in the public square because one disagrees personally? No one is asking you to change your beliefs or have people over for dinner. If the only cardiologist in town refused to treat your family because he saw your twitter, would you feel the same?

After all this, they still want to move into the same Friendship Village that discriminated against them. I'd be terrified to...expecting poison/neglect from one of the 'Christian' staff.
