Farah Alhajeh says she greets men and women in mixed company the same way — with a hand over her heart. A Swedish labor court ruled that she was not required to shake hands with a male boss.https://nyti.ms/2BhsfGj

Got it, that’s her religion. But what if I go to the other side and on MY culture we shake hands. will that b acceptable there and I’ll get things ruled on court so I can shake hands? I honestly don’t care, but I see a lot of accommodating being done to one side only.

I think you may have missed the point. People don’t have to shake your hand back.... why should anyone be legally forced to touch another person?

Because is MY culture, the same way is hers. Because myself coming from a culture where people DO shake hands and going to their culture I HAVE do adapt because is THEIR culture. However, when they are on MY culture I am the one that have to adapt and not the other way around.

I think we all have to adapt. But if one of their cultural/religious beliefs involve not touching a person of the opposite sex..... how can you feel it is okay to force that on them? I would love to not have to shake peoples gross sweaty/germy hands!!!!

Can we get rid of the handshake altogether? You never know where those hands have been (yes you do). #flu

People might try to make more out of this issue than it deserves but in truth there is nothing wrong with not wanting to shake hands, especially men and women. I was raised that a man should never extend his hand to a woman to shake it. If she did first then it was fine.

You know you would be guilty of discrimination, as that sentiment is not based on religion. The hypocrisy of this situation is real.

Sorry but the fact that I would not extend my hand first to a women to shake is not discrimination . The fact that I would not shake her hand if she extended it first might be construed as such. That is what is real.

You are correct, it isn't discrimination, my pt was the perception and application of the rule is not the same. I suggest you look up the case in Sweden of the Muslim man fired for doing exactly that. He's still in litigation.

Kinda stupid that this even had to be fought in court. If person doesn’t want to shake hands or engage in direct contact then they shouldn’t have to do so

And if a business doesn't want to hire said person because that goes against the culture there, that's fine too.

How does not shaking hands effect the culture at a workplace? It doesn’t seem like she was being aloof, or does it impact her ability to do her job. Culture is never set in stone and those who believe so have their heads up their ass.

Cool, so when people say they don't want to shake hands with a black person because their religion doesn't allow it (and yeah there are racist religions i.e. The Church Of The Creator), I'm sure you'll back that up.

Did this person say she wouldn’t shake hands with people based of race and religion? Did she say that she would treat people different based on race and religion? No she did not. So your argument falls of, and is based on nothing more then islamophobia.

Yes everything u disagree with is Islamophobia 🤣 I'll say it again, if some1 in a workplace says their religion forbids them from shaking hands with members of other races but assures us its not out of hate just faith cause Thor r Odin wants it that way, would that be acceptable

The world is changing and we all need to get on board. I hug people a lot and some people don’t like hugs..... so I don’t hug them. I don’t take them to court and force them to hug me.
