As a white English early 30s male I'll never be able to relate to what a strong powerful black woman experienced. but what I do know is how much I idolised and adored her. how much she inspired me. the only profiling I ever did of Aretha Franklin was she was queen of soul

I'm 6yrs younger than Aretha. I never got to meet her. But our feet marched the same path. Our voices spoke the same hopes.Working for Civil Rights my whole life. It is the most worthwhile thing I've ever done. No doubt in my mind she's with Jesus now we need to keep Fighting.

Delicate and powerful at the same time. She simply thaught me that singing is a celebration of life.

My mother would play Gospel on Sunday's and Soul Music during the week. The first song that ever moved me was RESPECT. A song that had so much meaning as I watched my mother go out to march for Civil Rights.

Today we lost a generation transcending multi-octave global treasure blessed with a voice touched by the angels, gifted pianist, civil and women’s rights activist. Heaven’s Angelic Choir just received a massive upgrade. #Respect #Isayalittleprayer

She was also a singer. I don’t know how you can fit that into your racialist narrative, but she was an AMAZING singer, songwriter, and producer. She was all that before, during, and after the civil rights movement, and stood above the politics.
