FBI agents found a consistent pattern in the way Catholic Church leaders covered up child sex abuse: Avoid scandal. Use euphemisms. Ask inadequate questions. Lock complaints away in a “secret archive.” Above all, don’t tell the police.https://nyti.ms/2nGf4VY

What is the ancient reason they don't let these men get married? I am not Catholic, but they may want to reconsider this rule. I wonder if that's why the last Pope quit 🤔

Getting married does not magically take away someone's predatory and pedophilic behavior. It's not about sex, it's about power over the vulnerable. These men find a place where they can prey. 😠

Priests initially were not to marry to keep all the wealth in the church and not dished out to spouses&children. But I believe they like to pretend the reason is more noble. But Oculus point is the important one.

The @Pontifex must admit the entire doctrine is a lie, close up shop for good, and give all the church wealth to children's charities. It won't be enough, but it's a start

It takes a village... It also takes a victim's dignity, sense of security, personal safety, among other things. Those children deserved better.

I hope the Catholic Church experiences even a fraction of the undeserved guilt they instill into children, families, & parishioners.

"Spotlight" is continually relevant. My heart breaks for the children--and even for the Church, which has been the source of many counter-cultural acts for marginalized people. Maybe the church needs to sell all its property and use the money for the poor.

Dogma over common sense thinking transcends beyond faith; it allows abuse, invades politics and perpetuates propaganda.

Let's not forget that as a society we historically gave Church leaders extraordinary social influence and power (ie, Archbp of NY). This same society had child pornography legal and readily available in bookstores until the 1980s. The "playbook" is shared by many.
