Barnes & Noble is floundering: sales are falling, stock prices are down 60% over the last 3 years, and critics say the company lacks direction. But Barnes & Noble's founder says he has a plan to turn the business around.https://nyti.ms/2B8RHh6

I love Barnes & Noble. I like to hold book in my hands, read the dust jacket, decide if I like it & should buy it. I think the children’s section is terrific w/ a wide selection of books, toys, games, stuffed animals. So cheerful. Children who go to B&N get a positive experience

I remember a time when B&N was rightly accused of destroying small independent book stores. Now B&N is the small book store being crushed by giant retail (that's u, Amazon). I hope they r successful in turning their company around. It will be missed by those of us who love books.

There's something about the tactile act of reading a book of paper that connects us to those who read the same words in a different time. Newer books just show us how much imagination there is in the human mind. My books are like old friends I enjoy visiting w/ time and again.

I hope it's a better plan then presuring their hard working personnel into continually harassing them into getting memberships that are ovwr priced and wont meet competitor prices :/ 0

The prices are always too high at B&N. I only shop at online retailers and local book stores.

Maybe they can sell books that have been sitting on the shelf for five years at less than full price?

Their loyalty program doesn't make sense. Say I spend $50 a year there (maybe). Why should I spend $25 extra (50% over usual), for the 10% discount? I have to spend $250 to recoup the program fee (500% of usual). And coffee discounts? Not a fan.

A real book store can never survive if the price of the book is the only metric used. If we value the book stores, the atmosphere, the chance to see the books, have coffee, we need to be ready to pay extra. There is no free cheese, except in a mouse trap.

The B&N nearest us has a huge footprint. Mostly taken up with a coffee shop, empty space, and toys. The % of space with actual books is shockingly small. We don't go there any more.
