He has been denounced by environmental groups. His boats have been sunk by radical activists. But Kristjan Loftsson, the world's last commercial hunter of fin whales, says, “If it’s sustainable, you hunt."https://nyti.ms/2Md64Wd

In our country he would be in prison already which would also be the safest place for him

What would he be in prison for? If the whaling is sustainable - ie no species is endangered, where exactly is the problem? Do we stop fishing for salmon? Cod? Haddock? Or only whales?

No, there's just no place in our society for animal abusers. We have people who would put a prize on his head so he'd be happy to be arrested. Our country was the first on our planet to elect a political animal rights party into office.

So based on your logic, we'd need to wait for a species to be endangered before we take action. Isn't it counterproductive? We need to take action now than when the situation worsens because its effects may be irreversible (e.g. extinction).

Based on our logic he doesn't get to decide. These are our animals also and they all deserve to be protected. There are almost always better options than killing them. Get real.

Whaling is absolutely unsustainable. It is enough to know its ecological function to understand the lack that a single individual does. Damage is very serious at the ecosystem level.
