New legislation in New York will temporarily cap services like Uber and Lyft. But that raises the age old question: what's the right number of taxis, Ubers, and Lyfts for a city anyway?https://nyti.ms/2OZOJ1u

I think the age old question is “what should be the role of government” Probably not this.

whatever the "right" number is, some government bureaucrat stooge is 100% certain not to know.

Won’t the companies figure that out, the way grocery stores figure out how many cashiers are needed?

But how will the government decide how many grocery stores there should be?!

The market should decide the right number, not the government. This will limit availability and drive up prices- pretty much the same result whenever government gets involved in anything.

The answer to the question is a matter of fluctuating, subjective market value. No one is qualified to answer the question definitively.

This was lobbied for by the MTA and TWA and the city council was all too happy to legislate against its own citizens. Why do taxis have anymore claim to the roads than Uber or Lyft?

This is a scam because people like @BilldeBlasio don’t like traffic for their limo rides. If you assholes fixed the subway system the demand for Uber and lyft wouldn’t be there.
