Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was offered $10,000 by Ben Shapiro, a conservative blogger and speaker, to debate him. She likened the offer to catcalling.https://nyti.ms/2P11jO7

She’s can choose not to debate him. And probably should. I don’t agree with her politics on every topic, but I don’t think she’s a fool. And I still think Shapiro would dance verbal circles around her in a debate, which is probably part of why he’s asking.

The problem isn’t that she said no, it’s that she responded like it’s a #metoo issue when it’s obv not & then said Shapiro is acting in bad faith. You just dog whistled that he’s a sexual harasser w/ zero evidence bc he asked you to debate, but he’s the one acting in bad faith?

Wake up. If it were a good faith invitation, he wouldn't have asked her in public WITH a 10K cash offer attached. Shapiro is a twerpy little chode and she doesn't have to take his offer; moreover, she was just being sassy; he--and you--are the ones invoking MeToo.

Also if it were a good faith invitation he wouldn't be doing a "victory" lap in the right-wing media bubble about it right now. He was no more likely to go through with it than Dinesh D'Sousa would go through his repeated invitations to debate Princeton Historian Kevin Kruse.pic.twitter.com/wcoLW4Q4Lk

I agree he’s making media hay from it. But I do think he’d have actually debated her, for whatever that’s worth.

Somehow I think it would go like this. AOC: Hi, I'm here for the debate. BS: What about VENEZUELA??? QED. I win. Bye. AOC: Wait, wait....let me... I don't know why I think this way but this tweet leads me to think it would go like that...pic.twitter.com/fi3AzmXrT8

The biggest joke is conservatives in 2018 still pretending they have a high bar for political candidates. Look at who they put in the White House. Look at the neo-nazis and assorted felons like Gianforte running on the GOP ticket. They need to debate their own damn selvespic.twitter.com/3R6pjohGnM

If Ben Shapiro (who is Orthodox Jewish) truly wanted to raise the bar, he's offer to debate one of the many neo-Nazi/White Supremacist Congressional candidates running in his own party this year. I've even tweeted that suggestion to him multiple times. But he won't do that.

So am I to assume that everyone on this thread that supports @Ocasio2018 has no problem with forking over a portion of their income to be redistributed amongst whomever? A socialist economy works only for those who control it; not those that are subject to its rules...

No, sir, you're wrong. The wealthy and powerful control the economy and thereby the government, especially post citizens united. The people are its victims. Capitalism uncheck is an economy of exploitation.

How exactly is capitalism unchecked in our country? The free market takes down companies all the time. The goverment shuts down crooked companies all the time. Capalism just requires at least some thought and effort.

5 Republican members of Congress and a Trump Admin official we're charged yesterday with insider trading. All of them have a net with greater than $5 million, all of them are supposed to be a check on our capitalist economy.

You think corruption will go away by changing to socialism? That's terribly niave of you. Socialism just makes the consequences of corruption dramatically more compounded.

There has never been a politician in contemporary political history who's been expected to debate anyone except for their actual opponent - Shapiro knows this, and he only directed an online harassment campaign targeting her because he, like the media, doesn't take her seriously.

I have! She’s a brilliant, articulate activist who is the finest asset to the American Left at the moment. Compare that to the 35-going-on-15 Shapiro, whose nasally diatribes consist of him saying the word Venezuela over and over.
