After more than 16 hours of deliberation, Argentina’s senate narrowly rejected a bill to legalize abortion. The vote gripped the nation as opposing camps fought to sway senators. We're in Argentina and spoke with people on both sides of the issue. https://nyti.ms/2MfvhPx pic.twitter.com/qeRO2b5yj6

Argentina is overwhelmingly Catholic and conservative. Many people, even those who are not religious, reject abortion on moral grounds. https://nyti.ms/2vQyLOv pic.twitter.com/Pa0fCggM2j

For instance, we met a gynecologist in Salta who was opposed to performing abortions. “I don’t want to do abortions. I didn’t sign up for that.” https://nyti.ms/2vQyLOv pic.twitter.com/VQQfj9c62m

But others say the lack of help intensifies suffering. “Suffering at the hospital, having to go through it alone because they don’t help you. It’s sad and ugly,” said a woman who looked for 20 weeks to have an abortion. https://nyti.ms/2vQyLOv pic.twitter.com/1d1xQKCA1J

Still, activists say the fact that the discussion of abortion came this far signals a shift in public opinion and is progress that cannot be undone https://nyti.ms/2vQyLOv pic.twitter.com/F19UqSHKaU

Hypocrisy and letting religion dictate policies will get you that. Abortions happen anyway. The only difference is that women don’t have access to safe options in countries like these.

Do you even know the definition of "hypocrisy"? Also, murder is illegal but it happens anyways but that's not a real argument, however, murdering a child is never an option.

🙄 ah, to worry about the well being of a fetus, while saying screw the autonomy of the woman who is already an actual person...

And the father has no opinion? Of course, he will pay for the baby in case he is born

The father had the option to keep it in his pants. Isn’t that what they say to women?

And why is different for women? Have safe sex of don't risk yourself, that easy, no need to force people to pay for other's irresposable desicions

The day men can carry a pregnancy I’m sure women will have no trouble passing it along instead of aborting, until that day, if you have a problem go cry to mother nature.

"i'm sure" Bullshit, you don't know how men could think, you can't even understand other women who see the murder of their children as a crime

Death won, twice the amount of lives will be lost with illegal abortion...If you consider the pre 24 weeks fetus a life, then only he dies with legal abortion, now not only him but the woman who aborts will probably die too. 2 lives lost thanks to "god"

People wouldn’t constantly push the “access “ argument if the same amount of abortions happened whether it’s legal or not. That argument is clearly based on the idea that more women would choose abortion is it was more readily available. So then the converse must be true.

I would like to know why a woman could not choose what to do with your own body. It’s better put a child without perspective of life in the world? I really can’t understand

Yeah but a women could choose to do what she wants with her body, but their point is that you are” killing a baby” and it is not a women choice to kill the baby

so do you think abortion is a crime? and how about the rape, what is that? how about forced a woman give a birth? how about men who dont assume responsability for your own child? because is not simply put a child in this world, you need to be give her a future too
