A nice theory but again, read the whole article. He did NOT say burquas should be banned. Just as I was taught as a child, gentlemen remove their hats indoors. And Boris is saying women should remove their burquas in face to face meetings. I can find no difference in approach.

This has to do with facial recognition technology. Security protocols would dictate that everyone should show their faces in public, for recognition purposes. This is just how it is in the modern world where suicide bombing terrorist wander around disguised and create carnage.

Dog Whistling to get support from an ignorant, bigoted racist base. He's seen it work elsewhere and has no actual principles of his own to betray, just a craving for power.

making comments like this and echoing trump not only with words but with bad haircuts is what boris owes brits and brexiteers since he's the one that pushed for brexit and then ran away from the mess he created. he better try to take the leadership from may or get lost for good.

For language to be 'dog-whistle' it has to be undetectable except for by dogs. Boris is just another undisguised panderer.

No it's a disapproval statement. Burka is the banner of the Islam. Soldiers of Islam follow the banner shouting "racists" for now. History shows later on they use knives to make their point.

We all know why he said what he did. They weren’t off the cuff remarks, they were planned offence designed to appeal to the right wing of the Tory party and the 51% Brexit lemmings who might one day vote him in.
