Men have always been obsessed with the fantasy that they could give life to a woman instead of the other way around — Adam’s rib, Pygmalion’s statue and Andrew McCarthy’s “Mannequin.” The point is not just to create women but to control them. https://nyti.ms/2OV4wyj pic.twitter.com/G9LFuUcLvx

Voice-controlled assistants like Siri and Alexa have feminine voices. The cyborgification of women online has created new standards to adhere to, ones that are increasingly costly and time-consuming to fulfill. https://nyti.ms/2OS5c7L pic.twitter.com/QRGMM3jvjI

Never mind that Frankenstein’s monster was male, conjured by a woman. And Terminator probably isn’t relevant, or HAL from 2001. I’m sure there are copious other examples. Woman give life. When men try, it goes wrong, which is kinda the lesson of those stories, no?

This is stupid. The deeper voice of a male is harder to understand when listened to on tiny, cheap speakers. Its really as simple as that.

@nytimes this article is an exemplar of everything wrong with modern journalism. Step 1: Find any subject matter that has any identifiable race or gender to it. Step 2: Find any problems, no matter how small, with said thing. Step 3: Assign all blame for problems found to *-ism.

Is this something people are really upset about? What if they placed a black persons voice, would we be inferring these devices are surrogate slaves? Cmon

'Women online' aren't voice controlled assistant cyborgs. Voice controlled assistants aren't cyborgs, they're software programs. Hardware can't gender, not alive. Penis into machine not make woman. Another legacy media death knell piece, where the conversation ends.#RespectWhamen

This is nothing new. The Times has been a part of it. Women's shelf life is as long as their body and face hold up. Our magazines are slathered with images of teenagers. It gives us little to aspire to outside of our natural born physical appearance and fertility.

Why is this even an issue? If women are equal to men, then they can do what they want and not adhere to these new standards, that are not directed by law, so it is only for the individual to deal with. Either you as a female are an adult, with the will to express yourself, or not

I used to change mine to a male voice cause I hated having a woman’s voice telling me what to do. I live in that world. I don’t need my technology doing it to me also...
