To assemble the cast, Jon M. Chu, the film's director, sent out feelers across 5 continents. “I wanted this to be the ‘Avengers’ of Asian actors.”https://nyti.ms/2MhLfbU
For a while, Chu was disturbed by casting controversies, particularly over the selection of a half-white actor for the male lead https://nyti.ms/2OT5hrO pic.twitter.com/OEJgw0TXtY
Ultimately, the film included Asian screen royalty, breakout stars, newcomers and YouTube discoveries https://nyti.ms/2MhLfbU pic.twitter.com/qMmZtJyxPy
My genetics professor is Constance Wu’s DAD and I think that’s freaking rad!
why do you keep playing up your white victimization mike?
So what is Sarah Jeong's opinion on this show? Let me guess.
This level of sad white-minority resentment has got me totally red-pilled.
Slumdog Millionare was an 'all Asian cast'. Unless you don't count non chinese/brown asian as asian.
Better Luck Tomorrow (2002) centers around an all Asian-American cast #CrazyRichAsians
Why don’t you see more natives in series, like Rich Natives of America? That would be a better question

Will they be racist Asian Americans like @sarahjeong or normal Americans like me that don't hate people based on skin color?
Imagine being Asian and never really facing much oppression - you follow the rules and your parents are statistically upper middle class. You have to then make shit up to fit the PoC oppression narrative; "H-he pronounced my name wrong!!"
Do you know why? Because they make up 5.6% of the population. This show is relevant to 5.6% of the population. That's it. It's not racism. It's not prejudice. It's relevance.
We were too large for the narrative. The only part they had any interest in consuming were jokes on our behalf. Only useful for punchlines, fetish, exoticism, other. I don't know if this will be different. We'll see.
