Exactly why people have to stop voting for Wall Street, permanent war candidates from both parties. Trump is going to get out of the Mideast, Afghanistan, reduce troops in Korea and Europe and rework trade deals to get jobs back to the US. He is the Peace and Prosperity Party
Don't forget Libya, that was a failure too.
That is already in the memory hole. What pissed me off about Libya, is that you had the recent example of Iraq. And you still chopped off the head of a Muslim, tribe based society and just let it devolve into chaos
That's the more frustrating thing is that you had very recent history to show it's a bad move. At least with Iraq and Afhganistan there was an attack on 9/11 that made it more justifiable, even though the intel was bad. Now we have to blindly trust intel again.
It was just so stupid. And it is roiling Africa and Europe and the poor Libyans. Just cut the head off and let ISIS and other crazies have another place to hang out. Oh and surge in Afghanistan but tell the Taliban you are leaving in a few years. History is not going to be kind

US policy in Iraq and Afghanistan has been on total disaster. Almost 20 years of war with no major results or end in sight.
We won in Iraq defeating Saddam & his military. Then we defeated Al Qaeda & ISIS. We defeated Al Qaeda & the Taliban in Afghanistan but we gave control of the countries back to the ppl who voted but the Govts are not stable. We have no interest in control except to stop terrorism
Well, that is true but defeating a military does not meet the strategic objective of stopping terrorism, which is why the scared politicians keep the war going just in case of another terror attack from Afghanistan. We should have handed Iraq off to the military and left
Hand to what military in Iraq? Former Dem Pres withdrew all US troops without leaving the 10,000 recommended by US military leaders so the terrorist ISIS took over large swaths of Iraq & launched terrorist attacks world wide.
You did not get what i was saying. In 2003, when Jay Garner was in charge of phase IV, his plan was to hand over Iraq to the next level down from the Iraqi military. He was fired, the Neocons disbanded the Iraqi military in the dumbest move (until Merkel) in my lifetime
I'm not aware of this but Saddam's military fought Iran for yeat a & used chemical weapons, also Saddam payed the families of murdering suicide bombers who detonated in Israel as well as Iraq firing missiles at Israel. This is not a military to turn a country over to.
2/ Additionally, what would your plan be? Hopefully not the plan we executed which lead to the Sunni rebellion and tough, hardened fighters who gained that skill fighting the US military. Garner's plan was realistic and the only logical option
You may be right but it never happened, we can only make decisions based on the facts as we find them today
Jack, yea I get that. I was working on going through Turkey for a Northern Option. There was no planning of phase IV and I do not think it was allowed from the Rumsfeld Defense Dept. If we took out Saddam and Co, and put others in, it would have sent a message, dont screw w/ us.
Did you read the article? After I read it, I would have something a bit more thoughtful to say
I didn’t say it, Butler did, and I think this tragic article validates what he said. If the people in power cared as much about the lives of regular soldiers as they did about their own political ambitions & weapons contracts everyone would be better off.
I do not think weapons contracts have alot to do with it. We buy weapons in peace time and not a whole lot more during war time, at least with our latest wars for the last 40 years. And good luck with politicians giving a damn lol. That aint gonna happen
