First African-American police commissioner indeed ! However don't forget that the first African-American Governor is Mr Decal Patrick. Massachusetts is a state of hospitality and tolerance.
-
How long have you lived there because Boston's history is anything but hospitality and tolerance.https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/boston-white-man-racist-rant-black-woman-video-motorcyclist-nene-judge-mayo-a8481721.html …

I lived in Boston ( 33 Maple Street in Malden ) over thirty years. Orange line was my transportation mean to Boston University, School of Public Health. No one is above the laws. Your white friend might be guilty, a reason why he deserved what happened to him
-
The lady he's talking to is black. She was redirected into that neighborhood because the police had closed off some other streets. She stopped to figure out how to get back on track when your friend approached her.

Why do people keep complaining about diversity in states that never had slavery?Eventually African Americans migrated North, but it is not the city's fault that the population did not originally exist there.Would you complain that an All Black area never had a white commissioner?
-
There was slavery in both New York and Boston. May I suggest that you read anything by Terry McManus, particularly Slavery in New York, or other books written by members of the McManus family? You might also take a look at Slavery in Massachusetts by Henry David Thoreau.
