And they're better for it...I'll bet they still know how to use books, maps, real telephones to speak with other real humans AND have actual, real, human friends. This is actually the case in MANY countries that r not enslaved to this crap.

No, as someone who mostly teaches Chinese students, they just made knock- off government censored versions of it all. They never get off their phones.

I lived in SH for two years. Many people in China use VPN’s to navigate around the “Great Firewall.” Remember, though, that they have their own mega sites, too. See weibo, wechat, baidu, etc. they don’t need google...

They do need Google because their mega sites are controlled by the communist party. Its not the same thing as Google which u and I have access to.

"they need to access google": but thats wht the article is all about. They DONT know what google is. Entire generation has grown up not knowing what a free internet is. All they have ever known is ccp controlled net. If they even know abt google, do they even value its freedom???

I understand. Government controlled internet is a real thing that has affected a whole generation. I was hoping that people would understand that there are many in China that regularly access the sites that are blocked by the Great Firewall. People are in the know.

Yes, u r right on that, many ppl r using vpn to access google. Clearly shows that not everyone in china loves the communist model and desires more freedoms, but that wont remain true for the future generations.

We have VPNs, Weibo, renren, weixin, baidu... why are you not running an article saying Westerners are “coming of age” without WeChat moments??

Why?? Becoz all of ur websites are controlled by the ccp. Don't you know that??? Can you get access to differing views on Tibet, tianamen Square, Taiwan, Xinjiang etc. I think you can't. That's the difference BTW Baidu and Google.

Can we do that too? If we’re going to limit free thought, let’s eliminate all controversial thought. That’s kind of your ideal situation isn’t it? Then @paulkrugman can be the SUPER crystal ball reader.
