I'm 54 and anti-period now and I have not felt invisible or old at all. In fact, the idea that I was old and invisible after menopause never occurred to me until I read this OP-ed. Thank you for trying to drag me into your abyss Margaret Renkl. Get a grip. You arent old.

Articles that reinforce stereotypes are depressing. This is the second or third column by this writer that I thought was dead wrong.

If you wade through the comments to the article, there are a few women who take exception to the article. It was deeply troubling to me that the author equates visibility with male attention and can't imagine a world in which women, young or old, can simply go about life. It's 1

Exactly!!! Thank you for clarifying my irritation for me. In hindsifjt, I should not have bashed the author, but maybe suggested that the rigors of menopause has left her depleted. Weed helps. Just sayin.

Oh how I love this piece! It’s so validating, kind and warm. Like a gentle welcome to the club most of us fear (but if we enter have lived to middle age). I started early w/ hot flashes & rock what I call the “Menopause Mohawk” invisible to men, yes, but finally visible to me!

Menopause does not at all mean end of sexual life rather it is more beautiful, no tension of pregnancy, no contraceptive required. Feel real joy, nothing artificial. Only condition, husband & wife have to think same way & treat each other as newly wedded. Live a matchless life.

You sound dispondant in your writing. Been there. This is a brilliant time in my life.I can be who I want to be. I am no longer shackeled by societies wants. No more games to play, no social norms to balance. I LOVE who I can become & who I remember myself to be. OLD? Brand new.
