The New York Times: Yeah, so take more $$$ away from seniors’ Medicare & Social Security! The Repubs fail to respect ALL the seniors’ earned benefits, of this country! Those benefits are the Repubs’ checking account!

This reminds me of the 2008 crisis caused by deregulated markets & greed of those at the top… big corporations & their CEOs got away while millions lost their savings, jobs etc. This system where you socialize the losses but privatize the gains cannot work.

Those are called Baby Boomers... and they’re the reason we have massive national debt and a younger generation that is so economically ignorant that socialism is actually making a come back... So, no. This isn’t a surprise.

You know what helps make money? Understanding economics.

Two people can understand economics perfectly, and one can come to capitalism, the other to socialism. There are other factors at play.

All the collapsed socialist economies would beg to differ. Socialism doesn’t last in the real world because when you centralize power, corrupt people find their way to it every time.

Unrestrained, pure capitalism is not decentralized. Our state-driven model even less so.

True enough but centralizing it even more isn’t the solution If you truly believe in socialism pool all of your resources with your friends and family and go live it. If you achieve utopia Im sure everyone else will want to join in Until then socialisms history is one offailure

If there’s a resource that generates income, which system is more centralizing: the one that collectively supports the people of the land or the one that gives everything to the guy who gets there first?

To all the journalists who have to put up with the hate and vermin in the comments, hang in there. I really appreciate all your hard work and effort. Keep these stories coming. And hopefully November brings the beginning of the end to all this nonsense. ♥️♥️

Old people having trouble cuz they didn’t save money: “help us! Pity us!” Young people incur massive debt, can barely afford to live day to day: “why aren’t you saving more? Typical millennials”

Actually a lot of them saved a bunch of money. At least relative to what they made.

That’s fine...but why do they deserve pity and younger people do not?

It's sympathy not pity. And no one is saying you can't have sympathy for both.

I would agree, But there are not many stories with a tone of “these younger people are struggling, and we should have some sympathy for them.” For the record, I am a millennial, save over 1/3 my annual income, just saying I see others who can’t do that, and society shits on them

We should take care of our people.Being sick is bad enough, but having to worry about financial things on top of that is miserable. U want to see desperation?Talk to someone who can’t afford their medication that they need to live. So they just don’t take it.That’s truly scary!
