Vanishing pensions. Soaring medical expenses. Inadequate savings. The rate of older Americans filing for bankruptcy has tripled since 1991.https://nyti.ms/2OIeaEJ

All the more reason to protect Social Security pensions and Medicare for seniors.

For many they only have social security & medicare for their old age. Sadly, SS does not pay enough to live on unless you get subsidies via programs (i.e. food stamps, housing vouchers, etc.) or they move in with family.

It's called the 401k myth and it was sold to the American worker. The only reaping the benefits were the CEOs.

There is no myth to 401(k) and CEOs don’t get significant benefits out of it. That said, it’s at best, a minor supplement to eventual retirement income, aimed to benefit stock market more than the actual beneficiaries.

You’re insane if you think CEO’s don’t reap benefit. The whole point is they no longer pay pensions and instead do meager matches to 401Ks. If you don’t understand how companies come out the winner—and people the losers—when they have no pension plan, don’t know what to tell you.

Yup. Reagan pulled the foundation out of the economy. Short term growth made him a hero. We are now paying the price. I was in Econ 101 when he was president. It was obvious to anyone who was willing to pay attention.

Or, because it'll cost 32 trillion over the next 10 years? It alone would increase our current debt by more than double over that time, not including the other crazy entitlements that we can't pay for.

But we can afford tax cuts for the wealthiest, $12b payback to farmers for screwing with the tariffs, wars wherever for no reason, having an absurd amount of funding for defense, etc. I don't want to hear anything about how we can't afford it.

You cannot save enough to pay for medical care in the US. It's cost prohibitive. It's a disgrace for this to happen in a civilized country. We used to be civilized. No more.

You did not have to be an economist to see this coming. It will only get worse. This country is only for the wealthy.

Any response to these dynamics from the Top 1% ? O, no. That’s why they are the astronomically rich. But don’t think of taxing the rich to help the poor.... that’s not the “crony, rigged, capitalism” so many love here in ‘merica. @SenBobCasey @SenSanders @FrMalloypic.twitter.com/JuR1azIVLy
