The #MTA is totally broken
The fares go up, the service goes down
I live one express stop from work and often have a hard time arriving on time b/c of the @MTA's lousy service
#NewYork deserves better than #CuomosMTA

Might have something to do with
@BilldeBlasio turning it into a mobile homeless shelter.

Uber and Lyft aren't perfect either. The subway will always have its faults but if you can tell me another way to get from, say, Far Rockaway to the Bronx for $2.75 I'd like to see it. The only time those ride services are faster in NYC is overnight and you'll still pay big $.
-
That journey takes forever by train. Uber might be more expensive, but it's faster.
-
"More expensive" is an understatement. I just Googled a ride from one end of the A train to the other. Uber gets you there 40 minutes faster but it will cost $60-95. Most NYers can find a lot better ways to spend as much as $90 than sitting in a car. Like groceries.
-
I will let you know that the A doesn't go to the Bronx. Are you a New Yorker?
-
Plus, those A trains are so slow and infrequent. There's no point.
-
Yes, I'm a NYer. I've ridden the subway since I was 7 and I know the A doesn't go the Bx (though 207th is close). I used it because it's one of the longest lines but you *can* go from Far Rock to the Bx for $2.75. Even w/delays paying $60-95 won't cut it for most people.
-
Good point with the $60-95

..turn to Uber, increasing traffic congestion and car emissions. MTA service is an issue (I live it daily), but it is still an efficient way to get around NYC.

West Coast here. I'm a driver, but when my car needs repair, or when going to an area of the city with expensive parking, I gratefully turn to public transit, not Uber/Lyft. People complain about how they can barely afford rent, yet they can afford to be 'chauffeured'.
-
And at least in LA, all it takes is one accident or lane closure and now your Uber/Lyft takes almost as long.
-
Often, in LA, Lyft/Uber izzzz the lane closure. When picking up or dropping off, they don't pull to the curb, but deposit their passengers in traffic, obstructing cars, buses, bikes... They think turning on their emergency blinkers makes lane blockage alright.

Child of the 70’s, oh gawd that was bad, and colorful, and I don’t think I ever got over it! Bet there are many like me; it’s a visceral reaction. I should add I am retired so do not need it for work. That’s different.
