This is really sad. This story could have had a different ending but as the saying goes, “Every man takes on the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world” and I think Condè has a “field of vision” problem.

Hubris takes its toll. And the "field of vision" problem has a name. Actually several names. And we know who they are. It takes a special kind of genius to turn a diamond into a rock...

Weird to me that this talks about Wintour having a high profile in mass market movies without questioning whether the people in the cheap seats are or have ever been subscribers to Vogue, VF, or the New Yorker.
-
I mean, it used to be that Vogue had readers - people who didn’t need a mass market book or documentary to, say, learn what the Sept. issue is. Seems like all the marketing in recent years is directed at people who have no particular interest. Readers, meanwhile, go elsewhere.
-
It’s not unlike the way the publishing industry often seems to focus on selling novelty books to people who don’t read books.

Interesting. Apart from all of the magazines being vacuous for decades, no mention of the self inflicted wound of being hyper-partisan (blatantly) in an era when half of the country has strongly differing views. New York Times, you should take note. You're next.
