Blueprints for making a variety of plastic guns on 3-D printers were scheduled to be posted online today. Here's a look at the man behind their planned release, and why the federal government is taking his side.https://nyti.ms/2KfVh8k

Does Owen ever get bears at his school! I bet one of those guns would be good for that.

No. Walter is a parody account making fun of crazy Trump supporters. Most of his followers are liberals just joining in the fun. I understand it is hard to laugh these days but that’s all the more reason we need to. We’re on the same side.

In terms of the American perspective its really not that much of an issue. You can make a knife out of almost any material. People make replica longswords in their garages but they're not seen as a threat?

There have been homemade firearms in the US for as long as there has been a US. Every heard of a zip gun? And guess what? It’s never been illegal. And guess what else? Blueprints for how to make guns are available from the federal patent office.

And how long will it take to make a gun with those patent? So you are putting in the same category a person who will tools to make gun to someone who just have to download a file and click print.

It’s such a rip off. When you buy it in the store, it comes preloaded with enough ink to make a pistol or maybe a pellet rifle. If you want a weapon of war, like an AR or a bazooka, you have to buy new cartridges. Which of course was 2 trips to Best Buy because I got the wrong 1

First Amendment rights extend only to words. Words are spoken, or expressed by way of Art. The minute Art is interpreted it leaves the authority of the First Amendment. In the case of the 3D printed gun, words are not expressed.

Actually, code is protected under the 1st. Unless you want to outlaw the sharing of code and 3D printers. Also guns are art considering that art is subjective.

Agreed, @Chimeraelite1 The NRA screwed themselves with their perverse support of gun proliferation. No one is going to pay $1000 for an AR when they can print it for free. Bye bye gun sales #3DGuns

Well, the overhead is going to be a bit much for the 3d printer itself and then the spools. Also right now I'm not so sure they plastics currently in use by printers can handle an AR cartridge, let alone any rifling would probably be destroyed in a few shots.

Oh cool. I didn't know the current plastics could hold up to the stresses of shots, at least with rifles. The barrels of the rifles are fully printed also?
