I've known people who suffered for years before their deaths. I'm related 2 many of them. I *do not* want to suffer to live even one more year. My grandmother died of a heart aneurysm & died immediately when it burst. I'm 73. I want 2 die quickly, not languish in a bed suffering.

Euthanasia use to be a solution,But the trouble isn’t the suffering in many/few years in each way the DEATH is the end. The trouble is what will happen after the death??
-
I believe peace & reuniting with loved ones is what awaits us. I don't fear death, I feel it is not the end.

I’m sure it’s a very interesting story but I’ll pass on this one. Think positive.

That is why both my husband and I have DNRs in our wallets and in plain sight on the fridge. Family knows and PCP as well.

The pacemaker my wife’s grandmother had originally offered comfort and relief. Then as the end neared, it kept her body alive months after she’d effectively left us. Her MDs refused to turn it off.
-
Possibly because "effectively left us" isn't a medical diagnosis...
-
My phrase. The MDs conceded she was gone.
-
Then they gave you subjective, nonmedical advice in complete contradiction to their actions. Something indeed doesn't make sense -- either their behavior, or your telling of it.
-
It was 20 years ago. I’m almost sorry I mentioned it in the first place. But I was there then, and you were not. Bye now.

No, actually that's not true. My Mom almost died when hers came loose and punctured her lung. If I hadn't rushed her to the hospital for immediate open heart surgery she would have died sooner. Stop spreading lies.

More ageism from NYT. Defibrillators save lives, and some people LOVE their older family members, something NYT is unable to understand.
